When you make a payment to your outstanding credit card balance there are certain things that get paid off before others. Find out more

Paying your credit card bill in Internet or Mobile Banking

Make a transfer

You can transfer money from any of your accounts in Internet or Mobile Banking to your credit card account (as you usually would transfer money between transaction accounts).

Set up an automatic payment

You can set up an automatic payment to pay a set amount (that you choose), off your credit card at regular intervals.

You can set up an automatic payment in Internet or Mobile Banking.

Fill in the payee reference fields as following:

  • Particulars: Your name, as printed on your card.
  • Code: First 4 digits of your credit card number.
  • Reference: Last 12 digits of your credit card number.

Remember to check that your automatic payment covers at least the minimum payment each month so you won't get charged a late payment fee.

If you don’t have Internet Banking, you can print out and fill in the Authority for automatic payments form PDF 127KB and take it into your nearest BNZ store.

Paying from another bank

If you have telephone or internet banking with another bank, you can set up a bill payment from the other bank to pay your BNZ credit card, or you could set up an automatic payment.

We’ve given your bank our payment details. So, when you set up a payment, you can just choose a BNZ credit card from the existing payee list and enter your credit card number as instructed.

Paying by mail or in person

You can post us your payment along with the ‘payment advice section’ (the bottom section) of your statement. The address to send the payment will be on the statement.

Make sure you post it so the payment gets to us before the payment is due.

Alternatively, you can pay in person at any BNZ store.

Paying by direct debit

You can set up a direct debit from any of your accounts to pay some of or the whole credit card bill, or just the minimum payment. The payment is taken automatically from the account you choose each month. A direct debit means you won’t miss any payments.

If you’re likely to set up a direct debit, fill out the direct debit for credit cards form PDF 94.8KB and send it back to the address on the form. Or you can call us on 0800 800 667 and we'll send a form to you.
