Paper statement fees

We’ve introduced a $1.50 fee per envelope each time we send you printed statements in the post for some accounts^^

Accounts that the fee applies to

The fee will apply for envelopes that contain statements for one or more of these accounts:

  • YouMoney accounts (including arranged overdraft facilities)
  • TotalMoney accounts (including arranged overdraft facilities)
  • Rapid Save accounts
  • personal credit cards (BNZ Lite Visa, BNZ Advantage Visa Classic, BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum).

The paper statement fee will apply to personal accounts in the name of one individual.

For now you won’t be charged for envelopes that only contain home loan or personal loan statements. And you won’t be charged for envelopes that only contain a joint account or business account statements. We’ll let you know if this changes.

The paper statement fee doesn’t apply to customers under 18, or anyone aged 70 or older.

How the fee is charged

Per envelope

If you choose to keep getting paper statements, the $1.50 fee may be charged each time we send you a statement envelope by post.

Where we can, we’ll send multiple statements for different accounts in one envelope. The fee is charged per envelope, so if an envelope includes statements for more than one account, we’ll still only charge one fee.

To one account

The $1.50 paper statement fee will only be charged to one of your accounts, so you always know where to expect it. It will be charged to the same account every time, even if the statements being sent don’t relate to this account.

If you have a transaction account, the fee will be applied to this account. If you don’t have a transaction account, the fee will be applied to your savings account. If you don’t have a transaction or a savings account, then the fee will be applied to your credit card account^. For more information on which of your accounts this fee will be debited from, contact us.

You won’t be able to change the account that the fee is charged to. However, if you close this account or open a new one, then the account that the fee is applied to may change.

Exemptions from the paper statement fee

If you have a disability that makes it difficult for you to access statements online, or limited access to the internet or digital devices, please get in touch to discuss your situation with us.

Stopping paper statements

The fee for paper statements reflects some of the costs of sending your statements in the post^. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we’re aiming to reduce the amount of paper we use by encouraging you to switch to online statements and to stop paper statements.

Accounts in one name

If your accounts are in your name only, you can turn off all your paper statements in one go through Internet Banking or the BNZ app.

We recommend all account holders register for Internet Banking to ensure they continue to have access to their statements, before turning off paper statements. Find out how to register for Internet Banking

Joint lending account owners

If you have a joint lending account (e.g. credit card, arranged overdraft, personal loan), once you’re set up to bank online, you’ll need to call us on 0800 275 269 or visit your nearest BNZ branch to turn paper statements off for all of your accounts, including individual accounts. All account holders need to be available to confirm the change, and be registered for Internet Banking.
