Children under 18 years old

To open accounts for children under 18 years old you’ll need to verify their identity as well as additional documents for yourself as the parent(s) or guardian(s).

Accounts for a child under 13 years old

To open an account for your child under 13 years old, you’ll need:

  • ID and proof of address for yourself as the parent(s) or guardian(s). See ID requirements for valid documents you can bring. (If you’re the legal guardian of a child, you might need to supply additional documents as evidence of this).
  • Your child’s full birth certificate and any valid photographic ID for them (if held).
  • To bring your child with you when you come in to one of our stores.

Accounts for a child aged 13 years and over

To open an account for your child (aged 13 years or over), you’ll need:

  • Photographic ID and proof of address for your child. (See ID requirements)

If your child has no valid form of photographic ID, then as the parent(s) or guardian(s), you must provide:

  • Your child's full birth certificate
  • Proof of your identification and address. See ID requirements for valid documents you can bring. (If you’re the legal guardian of a child, you might need to supply additional documents as evidence of this).

You’ll also need to bring your child with you when you come in to one of our stores.

BNZ KiwiSaver Scheme applications

Applications for 16 and 17 year olds

Only one parent or guardian is required to prove their ID and address when they sign on behalf of an applicant. See ID requirements for valid documents you can bring. 

Applications for under 16 year olds

All parents or guardians are required to prove their ID and address when they sign on behalf of an applicant. See ID requirements for valid documents you can bring. (If you’re the legal guardian of the child, you might need to supply additional documents as evidence of this).
