Refinancing your home loan
If you’re thinking of moving your home loan to BNZ from another provider, these are the steps that may be required.
1. Contact us
You can get in contact with a home loan expert by:
- completing the call back form
- finding a Home Loan Partner near you
- visiting a BNZ Branch to make an appointment.
2. Talk to a home loan expert
A home loan expert will get in touch to discuss your lending, and gather some information to help us understand your financial position. This will include receiving proof of your finances.
They’ll also identify if you’re eligible for Home Loan Switch. If eligible, you won’t need to find and pay for your own lawyer to refinance your home loan. More about the eligibility criteria for Home Loan Switch.
Documents you’ll need to provide
You can email digital copies of these documents to your home loan expert.
- Two most recent payslips for each applicant, a copy of your employment contract(s), or bank statements showing your income from the last three pay cycles; or
- if you’re self employed, your business’ last two annual financial statements and IR3 returns.
- Proof of any additional income: including rental property income, bonuses, overtime, or Work and Income, ACC, or IRD payments.
- Transaction history for the last three months for all non BNZ bank accounts.
- Last three months of loan statements for all facilities you’re applying to refinance to BNZ.
3. Receive an outcome
We’ll review your application and complete responsible lending checks. If your application is approved, your home loan expert will guide you through structuring your home loan.
If you’re not eligible for Home Loan Switch
If your lending application is approved, you’ll need to give us your lawyer’s contact details and we’ll send them the home loan documentation. They’ll provide you with the documents to sign and will help arrange the refinance with your current bank.
If you’re eligible for Home Loan Switch
In-person appointment
All borrowers against the home loan will meet with an authorised witness to complete a Refinance Authority and Instruction Form. The witness may be a BNZ staff member or another authorised person.^ The Refinance Authority and Instruction Form authorises our legal services provider to register BNZ’s mortgage.
Signing documents and moving your home loan
Each borrower will be emailed a link to our eSign portal to review and sign your new home loan documents. You’ll also need to upload the following supporting documents:
- Certificate of Insurance for the property
- confirmation of council rate payments
- statutory declaration of name change (if applicable).
As part of Home Loan Switch, your current bank’s mortgage will be discharged and a new BNZ mortgage will be registered against your property.
