NetGuard

Super secure internet banking.

We have chosen NetGuard to make your internet and mobile banking super secure.

What is NetGuard?

NetGuard is an additional layer of security that works alongside your existing access number and password to help make sure you're the only one with access to your account details.

NetGuard card for personal customers

NetGuard card

Personal Internet Banking customers are given a NetGuard card with a unique serial number and grid of numbers and letters. Unless you're using our Mobile Banking apps, (iPhone or Android), you'll need NetGuard either to log into Internet Banking, or to do things like make one-off payments. When NetGuard is required, you'll be asked to check the serial number of your NetGuard card, and to enter three values from the grid that match our randomly selected co-ordinates. Only your NetGuard card can provide the correct answers.

If you choose to login without NetGuard you'll be able to check account balances, transfer money between your accounts and make bill payments.

You'll still need your NetGuard card to:

  • Make one-off payments, update your personal details and view online statements.
  • Access Internet Banking from anywhere other than NZ and Australia.

And if you use our iPhone or Android Mobile Banking apps, you'll need your NetGuard card to activate Mobile NetGuard.

NetGuard for business customers

NetGuard token

Everyone using Internet Banking for Business gets a free digital NetGuard token that's small enough to slip into your pocket. Unless you're using our Mobile Business Banking apps (iPhone and Android), each time you log in, you'll be asked to enter a Login Code, which you get by entering your PIN into your NetGuard token. The Login Code changes each time you use it, so you'll never use the same code twice.

Important tips for using your NetGuard token

  • Always check your token's serial number against the one on screen
  • Internet Banking for Business customers are required to have up-to-date anti-virus software
  • Request to reset your NetGuard access PDF 28KB.

Mobile NetGuard (iPhone and Android mobile banking apps)

Mobile NetGuard provides the second layer of security for our iPhone and Android mobile banking apps for personal and business customers.  It's embedded within the app on the device and works automatically to authenticate your details when you login from that device.

Once Mobile NetGuard is activated you can login with only your internet banking password.

Key things to know:

If your mobile device is lost or stolen

Call us immediately on 0800 999 269 (or +64 4 494 7153 if you're overseas) so that we can disable Mobile NetGuard.  Alternatively, you can activate Mobile NetGuard on another iPhone or Android device (if you have one).  This will disable Mobile NetGuard on the lost or stolen device.

Mobile NetGuard only works on one device at a time

For your security, Mobile NetGuard can only be used on one device. If you activate it on another iPhone or Android device, it will be disabled on the first device.

Keep your NetGuard card or token

You will still need your NetGuard card or token to login from a computer and also to reactivate Mobile NetGuard if you need to.
