Ways to step up your security

We’re here to keep your online banking simple and secure. Here are some extra steps you can take to make it even safer.

Choose unique passwords and PINs

Use a phrase of two to four words and unique numbers as it’s easier to remember than a complex string of letters and symbols.

Don’t allow web browsers to save your passwords.

Use two-step authentication

Set up these two steps to help confirm that it’s really you logging in to your digital banking. This makes it harder for others to access your accounts or collect your information.

Avoid clicking links in emails or texts asking you to log in, which we’ll never do.

Keep your devices secure

Keep your devices locked, and never leave them unattended. You can lock your online banking if it’s been compromised.

Don’t ignore alerts to update your device or your apps. You can also set your system preferences to update automatically.

Check the latest scams

Keep track of the common emails, text messages, or calls made by scammers pretending to be from BNZ. You can also get scam savvy by learning about types of scams.

How to spend safely online

Use trusted networks

When shopping online, avoid using public Wi-Fi networks. Instead, shop using your personal Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Shop at known stores

Avoid online stores you haven’t heard of and read reviews before you hit purchase.

Look for URLs starting with ‘https://’ and a padlock icon, these usually mean a site is more secure, but it’s not guaranteed.

Make secure payments

Use secure payment methods like credit cards or digital wallets. Never save your card details for future purchases.
