Transitioning to a low emissions economy
We’re actively taking steps to accelerate the just transition to a net zero emissions economy, one that supports the regeneration of the natural environment, by:
- supporting our customers through sustainable finance
- enabling our SME customers to measure and reduce their emissions
- aligning our lending portfolios with pathways to net zero emissions by 2050.
Delivering on our focus areas
Supporting customers
We’re helping customers build climate resilience. We provide sustainable finance options to support them in achieving their sustainability goals. This applies to both businesses and individuals.
Building back nature
Our focus is on supporting nature-based solutions to deliver climate action. We do this alongside understanding and measuring our own operational impacts.
Taking action on our footprint
We continue to focus on reducing our emissions. To ensure we’re in line with best practice, we:
- hold Toitū net carbonzero certification (PDF 259KB)
- hold Toitū Enviromark Diamond certification for our Environmental Management system
- work with suppliers who share our values.
Our memberships
We believe it’s important to advocate and actively participate in the advancement of sustainable business practice. We’ve made a number of public commitments to sustainability and are working hard to deliver on these.
- We’re a Leading Partner of the Aotearoa Circle.
- We’re committed to the United Nations Principles of Responsible Banking and RE100.
- We’re a partner of Toitū Tahua: Centre for Sustainable Finance.
Regenerating the natural environment
Through BNZ Foundation we’re working with organisations to support the regeneration of the natural environment. The Manaaki Taiao grant funds initiatives that help to protect and restore nature for the long-term.
