How open banking works

Open banking lets you authorise other businesses to receive your data or make payments for you.

1. Give us a task

When you’re doing something through a third party, like making a payment or sharing account information, the third party will send a request to us.

2. Confirm your identity

When we get the request, we open a secure window in their app or website and ask you to verify yourself. It’s encrypted, private, and only we can see your answer.

3. Choose your account

If you need to let us know which account you want to use, we’ll provide you with a list of your eligible accounts and you choose the one you want.

Keeping you and your information safe

With open banking, you have the peace of mind that the information you consent to sharing is passing though highly secure and trusted interfaces, known as APIs (Application Programming Interfaces).

Trusted parties

Only third party providers who have gone through our due-diligence process will have access to our APIs.

Privacy

Third party providers must sign our API agreement, which includes protecting your privacy and only using your data with your consent.

Security standards

Data security standards and encryption processes are built into the API technology and must be followed.

Managing third party connections

You can give third party websites and applications limited access to your banking information and payments, without giving away your passwords.

Find out how to view, remove, or restore third party connections in the BNZ app, Internet Banking, or Internet Banking for Business.

BNZ APIs for developers

If you’re a developer or financial services provider then take your service to the next level by connecting your apps or web services to our BNZ APIs.

If you’re a BNZ Business client wanting to streamline your company’s operations, then you may be able to directly access your banking information and payments by connecting to our BNZ APIs.
