Using behaviour to recognise it’s you

When you bank online, we collect information on how you interact with your device (behavioural biometrics). We also collect details about your device. This helps us prevent fraud and illegal activity by making sure it’s you using the BNZ app or Internet Banking.

How it works

What behavioural biometrics is

Behavioural biometrics is a way of confirming your identity when you’re online. It’s information about the unique way you interact with your device, such as how you:

  • type
  • swipe
  • tap
  • scroll
  • or navigate.

Why we use it

We collect behavioural biometric information to help spot unusual activity and prevent fraud. It’s necessary to keep your accounts safer. You won’t be able to use the BNZ app or Internet Banking without us collecting it.

You can choose another way to bank with us if you’d prefer not to share this information.
