Taking card payments with PayClip

American Express and Diners card payments

PayClip only accepts Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards and Eftpos cards. Your PayClip device won’t take payments from an American Express (Amex) or Diners cards.

Chip and PIN cards

PayClip works with Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards and now also supports EFTPOS. It does not support American Express (Amex) or Diners cards. If your customer's card has a chip, you must insert the card (with the front of the card facing up) into the card slot located at the bottom of the PayClip device.

If PayClip isn’t reading the chip on the customer’s card

PayClip works with Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards, it doesn’t support American Express (Amex) or Diners cards. If your customer's card has a chip, check you're inserting their card the correct way (the front of the card should always face up) and you're inserting the card, chip-first, into the card slot located at the bottom of the PayClip.

If you are still having issues you could try swiping the customer’s card through the magnetic strip reader located at the top of the PayClip.

Swiping a card’s magnetic strip

You can swipe the customer’s card through the magnetic strip reader located at the top of the PayClip.

If PayClip isn’t reading the magnetic stripe on the customer’s card

Check you're swiping the card the correct way (the front of the card should face up with the magnetic stripe at the bottom). You can swipe the card either way through the magnetic reader (i.e., left to right or right to left).

Visa payWave or Mastercard PayPass payments

If the customer wishes to pay via contactless, once you have confirmed the transaction amount, click the “Tap” option on your smartphone.  This activate the contactless feature within PayClip and will prompt the customer to present their card to the PayClip. Get the customer to hold their card over the top of the PayClip.  The green lights at the top of the PayClip device should all light up.

If the payment is less than $80 (NZD) then no PIN will be required.  If the transaction is over $80 (NZD) then the customer will be prompted to enter a PIN.

A transaction confirmed message should appear if the payment has been successful.
