SelectaDNA

Help reduce the chance of burglary.

selectaDNA

SelectaDNA is a theft deterrent system that has been proven to help reduce burglaries. A Police trial has proven that SelectaDNA has drastically helped reduce burglary rates. In the six months to 28 February 2010, burglary rates decreased by 61% within a trial area in Randwick Park, South Auckland, compared to the same period last year.*

Would you like a near invisible way to help protect your valuables?

SelectaDNA Forensic Property Marking kits are now available at BNZ Stores. They're the first of their kind in New Zealand, and use DNA technology to help deter crime and identify your property.

How it works

Each SelectaDNA kit is uniquely coded. There are microdots bearing a unique identification number, and the solution they come in contains Synthetic DNA. Using a microscope, the Police can read the microdots, which can help provide evidence of ownership. The SelectaDNA solution can also be forensically analysed using a sample the size of a pin-head. Once you've completed the registration process, you can apply SelectaDNA onto anything from a ring to a car and rest easy knowing that your property could be identified, and you're helping to deter crime.

For only $84.95, each SelectaDNA kit contains

  • selectaDNA domestic Kit1 x Bottle of SelectaDNA Solution with UV Tracer and Microdots
  • 1 x Stick applicator
  • 1 x Pack of Warning stickers
  • Instructions and Registration Form
  • 1 x UV Keychain Light
  • Enough SelectaDNA to mark at least 50 items

The BNZ Safer schools programme

BNZ is helping to reduce crime in schools through the Safer Schools Programme, a community crime prevention initiative supported by the NZ Police via Operation SNAP, Neighbourhood Support, CrimeStoppers and the Ministry of Education.

We’ve given over 350 schools in the Rotorua, Waikato and Waitakere districts a free SelectaDNA kit to mark their valuable items and help protect theft of school property.

The schools we’ve helped so far are already seeing some great results. Our goal is to continue the programme across schools in other areas of the country.

Former Manukau City Mayor Len Brown says "The hard work is seriously paying off in the community."
