Earning Airpoints Dollars
With a GlobalPlus credit card1
- Whenever you buy something with your GlobalPlus credit card, you’ll earn Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars.
- With GlobalPlus cards you can choose a standard or Gold Visa, MasterCard® or American Express® card; a Platinum Visa or a Business Visa card.
With a GlobalPlus home loan1
- A GlobalPlus home loan, on either a fixed or floating rate, lets you earn one Airpoints Dollar for every $1,000 outstanding per year.
With Air New Zealand or partner airlines
- You can earn Airpoints Dollars while you fly on any qualifying flights with Air New Zealand, Star Alliance partners or other partner airlines.
With other companies
- To boost your Airpoints Dollars simply shop, hire a rental car or take a cruise with Airpoints affiliated partners; or choose to stay at any of the participating hotel and resort groups.
With Fly Buys Points2
- As soon as you have 300 Fly Buys Points you can convert them to Airpoints Dollars.
- This means you can earn extra Airpoints Dollars by using your Fly Buys card as well as your GlobalPlus card at places that offer Fly Buys.
Using your Airpoints Dollars
You can use your Airpoints Dollars for Air New Zealand domestic flights, including grabaseat, as well as international flights with Air New Zealand and other Star Alliance members.
Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars let you choose from every seat available for sale on every Air New Zealand ticketed and operated flight. There are no black-out periods and no restrictions on when you can use them. However, the government and airport tax part of international flight tickets can’t be paid with Airpoints Dollars.
One Airpoints Dollar is the same as one New Zealand Dollar for flight purchases, so a $49 flight will cost 49 Airpoints Dollars4. You can also gift Airpoints Dollars to other members of your household4.
Plus with GlobalPlus, you can redeem your Airpoints Dollars for car rental, hotel accommodation, and Koru Club membership5.
Paying with Airpoints Dollars is easy:
- When you join the Air New Zealand Airpoints programme, your welcome letter will include your personal access code, or PAC.
- Visit airnewzealand.co.nz and click on the ‘My Account’ box.
- Use your PAC to register online, and you’re all set to start buying flights with your Airpoints Dollars.
Airpoints Advance5
- If you’re a little short on Airpoints Dollars for a trip you have in mind, you may be able to get an Airpoints Advance to pay for the rest of the flight.
- The advance is available with all GlobalPlus cards except GlobalPlus Business.
- There are no fees to use the advance and no interest on the advanced Airpoints Dollars but they do need to be paid back within a year.
- An advance of 50 Airpoints Dollars is available with a GlobalPlus card, 100 with a GlobalPlus Gold card and 200 with GlobalPlus Platinum.
Earn Air New Zealand Status Points
If you have a Gold, Platinum or Business GlobalPlus credit card, the purchases you make with your card can also contribute to your Air New Zealand Airpoints Tier Status. You’ll earn one Status Point for every $250 you spend with your card and, for Silver or Gold tier status, up to half of your Status Points can be earned this way. Different criteria apply for Gold Elite tier status.6
