Saving through the workplace makes it easier for people to save consistently for their retirement. As KiwiSaver is administered through the workplace, employers play an important part in KiwiSaver and have a number of obligations.
As an employer you have to make contributions to your employees' KiwiSaver accounts if they're over 18 and have KiwiSaver contributions deducted from their salary or wages (other eligibility criteria apply).
You have to contribute at least 2% of the employee's gross salary or wages. Contributions to existing superannuation schemes may count towards compulsory employer contributions if certain conditions are met.
Please note the Government has proposed to increase the minimum compulsory employer contributions from 2% to 3% from 1 April 2013. All employer contributions to KiwiSaver will be subject to employer superannuation contribution tax from 1 April 2012.

Reduce administration and save time by appointing a preferred KiwiSaver provider
Appointing a preferred KiwiSaver provider (also referred to as an 'employer-chosen' scheme) for your workplace means all employees1 automatically enrolled into KiwiSaver will be allocated to your provider. It could really simplify things for you and your employees. For example:
- You'll only have to deal with information from one KiwiSaver provider and questions from your employees about only one provider
- You'll be ensuring your employees get consistent information from one source

It’s easy to make AMP the preferred provider for your workplace. You simply visit the AMP website and apply online. Once you've completed the application form, AMP will send you an information pack so you’ll be all set to provide KiwiSaver to your employees.
