Our sustainable buildings
Bank buildings that are better for the planet.
Sustainability matters to us, so we’re working hard to reduce our impact on the environment. A major step forward is the replacement of outdated premises with new buildings constructed to Green Star standards.
A new era of bank buildings
Three of our buildings (Quay Park and Queen Street in Auckland, and in the Harbour Quays complex on the waterfront in Wellington) have been designed to meet the New Zealand Green Building Council's 5 Star Green Star rating, a level that signifies 'New Zealand Excellence' for sustainability. Certification is an ongoing commitment – once the buildings are complete, they must be operated in a sustainable manner.

About Green Star ratings
The Green Star rating system has tools that assess the environmental impact of a building’s site selection, design, construction and maintenance. Green Star looks at eight separate environmental impact categories, plus an innovation category, as set out in the diagram below.
