Apply for sponsorship
Find out what BNZ sponsors and how to apply.
BNZ’s key sponsorships have a New Zealand focus which allows communities from Kaitaia to Bluff to be involved.
Our key sponsorships are:
- Super Rugby
- Royal New Zealand Plunket Society (Inc)
- BNZ Save the Kiwi
We also support businesses through our partnership with the ICEHOUSE, industry conferences, seminars and business events. While our key focus is supporting our national sponsorships at a local level, we also help out in the regions with smaller non national sponsorships.
Our sponsorship policy has clear guidelines to ensure fairness and good use of our investment in the community. Here‘s some information on how you can apply for sponsorship from us.
Timing
We view sponsorship as a two-way partnership, so it’s not something we rush into. You should allow three weeks for us to review your request and then we will contact you, usually by email.
At this time it’s possible that we may require additional information before we can determine if we can assist with sponsorship funding, we may arrange a phone meeting or a face to face meeting to learn more about the opportunity.
If you have a large sponsorship event or opportunity make sure you give us many months notice. The larger the opportunity the greater the lead time we need to work with you on promoting the event and working out how to involve our BNZ people to make your event a success.
We will consider
We consider requests for sponsorships that:
- Benefit the wider New Zealand community
- Ideally allow BNZ to be the principal sponsor or naming rights sponsor
- Allow BNZ to be the only financial services organisation involved
- Give our staff, store network and business centres an opportunity to get involved
- Will ideally lead to an ongoing two-way partnership between you and us
We will not sponsor
To save you time and the possibility of wasted effort, here’s a list of things we will not sponsor:
- Opportunities, organisations or events based outside of New Zealand
- Individuals (unless supporting the individual helps the community)
- Hobby or personal interest groups
- Illegal or high-risk activities or events
- Religious causes, events or agendas
- Political causes, events or agendas
Examples
Here are some of the events and organisations we’ve sponsored in local communities:
- BNZ Solo Series and BNZ Trainer Wheels as part of the Wattyl Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge 2009
- Relay for Life
- Wellington free ambulance
- Community theatres
- Sports clubs (tennis, bowling, mountain biking and rugby)
- Epilepsy NZ
- Auckland Zoo Kiwi and Tuatara Enclosure
- Rotary Conference
- Towncentre Taupo Excellence Awards
- Cycle velodrome
- A&P Association (e.g. Calf Club)
- Family fun days

Tips
Tips to make your sponsorship request stand out.
- Fill in all the questions.
- Tell us briefly about your organisation so we can see if it’s a great fit for BNZ to partner with. Are you brand new or been in operation for many years? What is the purpose of your organisation? If you have a website let us know the URL address.
- Tell us about the event or opportunity. Is it the first time it’s been held or has it been going for many years? How many people attend or expect to attend? Describe the people who generally attend (the demographic) e.g. primary school children, 35-50 year olds, senior citizens, mix of races and financial backgrounds, is there anything these people have in common such as all have children at same school, live in local area, etc.
- How will the sponsorship benefit BNZ? How will people know we have sponsored it? Can we put up signs, have our branded carts and trailers there, can we be involved at prize giving, is it the type of event where our staff can tell people about our banking services, can our staff help direct traffic, help with lost children etc. We have BNZ stores throughout the country how could some or all be involved?
- Is there any other way we can help you other than money? Do you need advice in any area? Volunteers? A meeting room for team planning sessions before the event and for the event debrief? Do you need help in setting up bank accounts, appeal accounts and understanding what financial services BNZ can provide?
- Attachments are welcome. Perhaps you have photos of last year's event or greater information on the event- PDFs, Word documents and Powerpoint presentations are all fine to attach.
- Don’t forget to fill in all the sections! (Yes, this is so important we are reminding you twice).
