SWIFT code for Bank of New Zealand

     
  The SWIFT code for Bank of New Zealand is: BKNZNZ22
This should be used whenever funds are sent from overseas to BNZ bank accounts.
 
   

SWIFT or BIC (Bank Identifier Code) codes should be used on all telegraphic transfers to identify a particular bank or financial institution.

IBAN and other types of codes are sometimes requested in conjunction with SWIFT Codes

International Bank Account Number (IBAN)
European countries have adopted a standard known as an International Bank Account Number (IBAN).

New Zealand has not adopted this standard, so if you're giving your details, please provide your full bank branch account number and suffix as indicated on your statement.

Other Codes
Other codes that you may see are BSB, Sort Code, ABA Routing Number, Clearing Code or National Clearing Code.

If you're asked to provide a clearing code for your payment into BNZ, please use: NZ02nnnn - where nnnn is your four digit branch number (see domestic account number formats below).

New Zealand has not adopted any of the other codes.

Sending a telegraphic transfer overseas
You will need to provide the following details to BNZ in order to send a telegraphic transfer:

  • Your full name, e.g. JOHN CHARLES SMITH or ABC COMPANY LTD.
  • Your full residential address, including town/city and country, i.e. No PO Boxes.
  • Beneficiary's full name, e.g. EDWARD MATTHEW JONES or XYZ PTY LTD.
  • Beneficiary's full residential address, including town/city and country, i.e. No PO Boxes.
  • Beneficiary's account number (Note, IBAN is mandatory if sending to a country in the European Union

Other requirements per country
India – Because of the vast population and number of branch locations in India, it is necessary to include full details of the Beneficiary's Bank. The preferred information is as follows:

  • Name of the bank
  • Name of the branch
  • Building name, plot number
  • Street / road name, name of the area
  • City name and PIN code (Postal Identification Number)
  • Phone number if available.
The PIN code is required and refers to the actual branch location. As a general rule most people ordering payments to India will know this code.


South Africa – A six-digit Sort Code number that can be pre-fixed with //ZA.
United States – A nine-digit ABA Routing number that can be pre-fixed with FW.

Receiving a payment from overseas
You will need to provide the following details to the person sending the funds:

Your account name
Your address
Your full account number to be credited

Account Number Formats
Domestic Account Numbers (including the four digit branch number, seven digit account and three digit suffix) should be in this format:

02-NNNN-NNNNNNN-NNN
Your account number is displayed on your account statement

Foreign Currency Account Numbers (including the six digit account number and four digit suffix) should be in this format:

NNNNNN-NNNN
Your foreign currency account number is displayed on your account statement
